Work in progress (and always will be)

There will always be questions, some are common, some not so much. If you have something on your mind (bike related!) that isn’t covered below then by all means contact me at frequencycycles@gmail.com or message on Instagram @frequencycycleworks. I’m always keen to answer questions and impart knowledge.

And if it’s something I don’t know, we’ll find out together!

Do you sell bikes?

We operate a bespoke service in association with Foundation Bike Fit to help you find a suitable bike and or components. We don’t stock off the shelf bikes. But we’ll happily offer advice on buying a bike elsewhere if you book a fit.

Can I just turn up unannounced with my bike?

No, afraid not. Frequency Cycleworks is an appointment only workshop. We’re a small, specialist outfit and as such we don’t have room to store a fleet of bikes while they wait for parts or to get worked on etc. We book clients in over email (or phone) and once we know what to expect and how long it might take we give you a time and date to arrive with your beloved.

How long does a full service take? I don’t want to be without my bike for too long!

It depends (the answer is always ‘it depends’ ;) on your bike, what needs attention, whether or not we need to order new parts and how finicky it is to take it apart. But it’s in our own interests to get your bike back to you as soon as possible so we’re not storing it unnecessarily.

Why is x,y,z so expensive?

There are a multitude of reasons why a part seems expensive but it’s mainly down to lack of industry standardisation. Your bike will likely need parts only made by one manufacturer, the margins can be small and there’s a queue of people out the door wanting to get paid - designers, marketers, manufacturers, distributors,.. AHEM, mechanics… it is, as they say, the nature of the beast.

Can you do it cheaper?

If you agree to pay my monthly bills for a year, I’ll happily give you a discount 🙂

Can you convert my wheels to tubeless? I’ve heard everybody talking about it.

Of course. As long as the wheels and tires are tubeless ready we can replace your inner tubes with sealant. HOWEVER, as much as people would have you believe it’s the best thing since sliced bread there are caveats to tubeless systems and we’ll be happy to discuss this at length with you in order to help you decide whether it’s something you really need or just want 🙂

My disc brakes are spongy, they need bleeding.

Do they? Are you sure? They might just need a small adjustment. If the left and right pads don’t contact the rotor equally you’ll get a spongy feeling. If this is the case we can charge for a minor adjustment rather than a full brake services so we don’t need to get the rubber gloves out and you don’t need to pay for an unnecessary brake bleed. We want you to enjoy riding your bike first, and you’ll be back when your brakes really DO need bleeding!

I took my bike to another shop and now it’s x,y,z…

Sometimes people do things in a rush, or maybe there was an underlying problem that only became apparent after fixing a bunch of other things. It happens. But we’re problem solvers. That’s our speciality. And if something isn’t right, we’ll do our best to fix it.

Do you deal with warranty issues?

Only for our existing customers and only if the part in question came through us. The big retailers are better equipped to deal with warranties but we’ll help if we can.
